Ethnic minority participation through education and employment
In 2009, while a number of cities (and governments) in Europe hardened their approach to Roma communities (evictions, destruction of camps, etc.), the city of Udine (IT) decided to explore inclusive solutions with 10 other EU cities in the URBACT network, ROMA-NeT. Here is how the URBACT Method has allowed the city to engage with the Roma community and find sustainable solutions to improve their living conditions ever since.

Roma Young people meet in Prague for a training with Transition Online on the role of social media in communicating Roma related work. They came up with 10 strategies in communicating and transmitting their actions and achievements on Roma. Writing press releases, contacting journalists, using social media, being creative by using different supports such as videos and info-graphics and having communication trainings were part of the recommendations! The last meeting of the EUROCITIES Roma taskforce addressed the issue of Roma empowerment. Members of EUROCITIES' taskforce on Roma inclusion, together with European Commission representatives and invited experts, met on 13-14 in Budapest. Representatives from local authorities exchanged tools and methods for promoting Roma empowerment and involvement in the development and implementation of local Roma inclusion.

On the 8th of May 2014, partners of the Labour Plus project met in Newry and Mourne for a seminar dedicated to the Social and Economic Approaches to Inclusion and Employment Strategies in Europe.
